Homebrew SDR Transceiver

SDR transceiver QSD/QSE , 3w output. This transceiver is associated with a tube amplifier to provide about 50 to 70w output . The LCD display is providing features for calibration and few setup . The frequency , mode , TX/RX , SWR, output power and a bargraph for RX level are also displayed (it is just cosmetic , nothing essential since all information is available on the computer screen).

This Transceiver is a variant release from YE3CIF op Arif from Indonesia

The main update are :

  • Homebrew Arduino Sketch
  • Enhanced Preamp
  • addition of galvanic insulation using 600/600 Transformer
  • replace the NE5532 with 4562 Amp op

The following webpage will be updated with new firmware, Schematics, BOM and Gerber files: https://f5npv.wordpress.com/homebrew-sdr-trx/

Multimode from 160m up to 10m

The software to drive this tranceiver is a custom release of PowerSDR from US1GHQ which is really great . Unfortunately due the war in Ukraine , the development has been stopped . Therefore the latest release is really great and using it for 5 years now without any issue . It can be run with a slow computer and do not need a high spec CPU .

The controller which is an Arduino Nano is using a homebrew development based on TAPR openhpsdr.

I manage to have from 4 to 5 watts and this is a great news . With the tube amplifier i can reach almost 100w for some bands.

The implementation in the casing was tedious and need some shielding and filtering on all wires in order to prevent , spurious , RFI and even the Arduino was resetting itself .

Tooks me a complete day for the implementation in the casing .

For CW ,you just need a tiny FTDI interface .i am using this kind of interface for years now. You can use CW without the interface but the main issue , PowerSRD i providing some latency which is a problem in particular if you are using Iambic or Bug . With all my SDR TRX i am using a K3NG keyer which is really great and providing a lot of features and options .

In addition , for contester the K3NG is providing Winkey capabilities

If you want to build one i highly recommand a design from UN7FGO op Gennady . For beginners the K3NG Keyer is providing a great practice mode .

Gennady is a great homebrewer and we have worked together for a common project (FT8 transceiver).
